Three day workshop with Theresa May O’Brien. This contemporary technique for highly detailed felt designs laminated with cottton fabric will offer students unlimited surface design possibilities. This technique is one which which May-O’Brien has been developing with Turkish Felt Master Mehmet Girgic. The style has allowed the artist to first work with traditional Turkish designs and then open up the possibilities to the numerous decorative patterns of the world.Students will work with a natural dye palette of merino wool which has been crafted by the artisans at Kececi. Students will be encouraged to expand this palette by mixing and blending to fit the students unique taste. Students will first organize their design and then apply hand crafted wool outlining to emphasize the detail of the design. This outlining will be followed by color inlay work and lastly the backing construction. After all layout is complete, students will practice varrious methods for felting and then fulling the goods into a durrable art piece. Finnished rug will measure aprox 2′x3′
